Insurance Per Booking Feature

Insurance Per Booking Feature

Overview

The Insurance Per Booking feature was introduced to simplify and streamline the process of selecting travel insurance within the Softrip platform. This enhancement allows operators to configure insurance selection at the reservation (booking) level, rather than requiring a separate insurance choice for each passenger. The goal is to reduce complexity for both operators and travelers, while maintaining flexibility for different business needs

What Changed?

Previously, insurance options were selected on a per passenger basis. With this update, you can now configure the system so that insurance is selected once per booking. This means:

  • Only one set of insurance options is displayed, regardless of the number of passengers.

  • When insurance is booked, it is still recorded per passenger for reporting and reconciliation, but the process is seamless to the end user.

  • The insurance service will appear as a single line item with a quantity equal to the number of passengers on invoices and reservation summaries.

How to Enable Insurance Per Booking

A new system setting controls this feature:

  • DefaultID: INSURANCEPERRES

  • DefaultText: Y (to enable per booking insurance)

This setting is managed in the Defaults area of the system. It supports brand-level configuration, so you can enable or disable the feature for specific brands as needed (e.g., BRAND1=Y;BRAND2=N). By default, the system continues to use per passenger insurance unless this setting is explicitly enabled

User Experience

  • Passenger Page: The insurance options section remains on the passenger page, but only one set of options is shown.

  • Booking Flow: When insurance is selected, it applies to all passengers in the reservation.

  • Invoices & Summaries: Insurance appears as a single service with the total quantity matching the number of passengers.

Note: All insurance restrictions and business rules continue to apply as before.

Why Use Per Booking Insurance?

  • Simplifies the booking process for both operators and travelers.

  • Ensures consistency when business rules or insurance providers require all passengers to have the same insurance option.

  • Flexible configuration allows operators to choose the approach that best fits their business needs
