Hiding the Designator (DESIG) for Hotels in Softrip

Overview

Softrip now supports hiding the "Designator" (DESIG) field for hotel services in both the reservation cart and customer-facing documents. This update was made to address confusion caused by inconsistent or misleading designator values returned from external hotel interfaces (such as HBSi and SynXis). The new configuration ensures a clearer, more predictable experience for both travel advisors and customers.

Why Was This Change Made?

Previously, the DESIG field (e.g., "Single", "Double") was populated based on data from external hotel APIs. However, these values were often inconsistent or incorrect. For example, a two-bedroom suite might display as "1 Single", which did not accurately reflect the accommodation type and led to confusion for both advisors and travelers.

What Has Changed?

  • New Setting: Softrip now includes a setting (ClearDesig) that allows you to specify which service types (e.g., hotels, transfers) should have their DESIG field cleared during the reservation process.

  • Cart Display: When the DESIG is cleared, the reservation cart will no longer show the designator or a confusing quantity (e.g., "1 / 3 nights"). Instead, it will simply display the duration (e.g., "3 nights").

  • Document Display: Customer-facing documents will still show the quantity of services booked, but the DESIG field will be omitted, ensuring clarity.

  • Back-End Flexibility: The DESIG can still be entered and used internally for setup and reporting, but will not appear on customer-facing screens if cleared.

How Does It Work?

  1. Configuration:

    • The system administrator sets the ClearDesig default to a comma-separated list of service types (e.g., HTL,TRF,SST).

  2. Booking Process:

    • During reservation, if a service type matches the list, the DESIG is cleared for that service.

  3. Cart Behavior:

    • If DESIG is empty, the cart hides the quantity/designator and only shows the duration.

  4. Document Behavior:

    • Documents show the correct quantity but omit the DESIG, avoiding misleading information.

Example 1: Cart View Before and After

  • Before: The cart displays "1 Single / 3 nights" for a two-bedroom suite, which is misleading.

    • Insert Screenshot: Cart with DESIG shown (e.g., image-20250917-205857.png)

  • After: The cart displays only "3 nights", with no designator.

    • Insert Screenshot: Cart with DESIG hidden (e.g., Screenshot (602)-20250923-130158.png)

Example 2: Document View

  • Before: The document shows both quantity and designator, which may not match the actual accommodation.

    • Insert Screenshot: Document with DESIG shown (e.g., image-20250923-192328.png)

  • After: The document shows only the quantity, omitting the designator for clarity.

    • Insert Screenshot: Document with DESIG hidden (e.g., image-20250923-192336.png)

Example 3: Service Setup

  • Service Setup Screen: The DESIG can still be entered for internal use.
